At Odyssey Blades, every piece is individually handcrafted. Proper care is essential to preserve the performance, durability, and visual appeal of your blade over time.
After each use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth to remove fingerprints, dust, and residue.
For tougher stains, use mild soap with warm water, then dry the blade immediately and thoroughly to prevent moisture buildup.
Apply a light coat of mineral oil or blade oil regularly to protect against rust and corrosion.
This is especially important for Damascus and carbon steel blades, as well as items that are stored for extended periods.
Store your blades in a cool, dry environment away from humidity and direct sunlight. Always ensure the blade is completely dry before placing it in a sheath or scabbard.
For Damascus and carbon steel blades, avoid long-term storage in leather sheaths — leather retains moisture and can cause corrosion over time.
Maintain a sharp edge using a quality sharpening stone or honing rod.
For best results, professional sharpening is recommended.
Note: Odyssey Blades does not currently offer sharpening services. We recommend consulting a local professional blade sharpener.
Regularly inspect your blade for:
Address any issues promptly to prevent further damage.
Avoid contact with acidic or corrosive substances such as fruit juices, salt, or chemicals.
If exposure occurs, clean and dry the blade immediately to protect its finish.
Damascus blades require additional care to preserve their distinctive layered patterns. Clean gently, keep dry, and apply a thin coat of oil regularly. Avoid exposure to salt, humidity, or acidic substances — these accelerate pattern degradation and corrosion over time.
Handle all blades with care and respect.
Avoid dropping, misuse, or applying excessive force beyond intended use.
Keep all bladed products out of reach of children and inexperienced individuals.
When displaying your blade:
Check periodically to ensure the display remains stable and secure.
If you display multiple pieces, rotate them periodically to prevent prolonged exposure to the same environmental conditions.
With proper care, your Odyssey Blades piece will retain its quality, functionality, and visual appeal for years to come. Each blade is crafted to last — how long it truly lasts depends on how well it is maintained.
